A
long time ago , a good friend of mine
was in a band called Wally. They made two
successful albums then split up during a
tour of the USA. This started out as a song
by Roy Webber for the lost third album. I
only heard it a couple of times, but
recently I realised how appropriate it is to
the way we live now. I only remembered a
couple of verses, so the middle of the song
has lyrics by me.
I’m
going to hand out a warning, about events
that might come
Pretty
soon you’ll be crawling, to the beat of a
different drum.
There’ll
be no time for pretenders, watch what you do
with your life, my friend
There’ll
be no time for losers. You’d better watch
what you do in the night.
Don’t
come and tell us you’re homeless, don’t
say that you’ve got no food.
You
could find work if you wanted. You never had
it so good.
We’ll
feed you if you have earned it, long as you
just do what’s right.
Don’t
go stirring up trouble. You’d better watch
what you do in the night
No
use complaining and moaning, no use to kick
up a fuss.
Put
down your torches and banners, why not just
be one of us?
We
know what you’re doing each minute,
we’ve got you all in our sights.
Know
where you are, who you’ve been with,
You’d
better watch what you do in the night
You’d
better watch what you do.
You’d
better watch what you do
You’d
better watch what you do in the night
I’m
going to hand out a warning, about events
that might come
Pretty
soon you’ll be crawling, to the beat of a
different drum.
So
get yourself put in order, why you look such
a disgrace
You’d
better change that religion, be a part of
the super race.
