Doormat

A song that I wrote during a jam session. I was playing mandolin and started playing the main two chord riff that this is built on. The words just came to me as I played, so there is no personal story to this at all.

Work my fingers right down to the bone

And then you leave me to spend my nights all on my own

The way you treat me is a crying shame

When it comes to crying, well two can play that game.

You think I’m a doormat

 W, e, l, c, o, m, e,

Every time

You come home

Every time  you walk all over me

I don’t know where you’ve been for so long

Just know that when you come back I’ll be gone

I’ve got the car , got all the money too.

The only thing I’m leaving here is you

You think I’m a doormat

I’ve heard it said that you live and learn,

But given time

But given time

But given time even a worm will turn

So now I’m leaving, just won’t take it any more

It’s time to pick myself up off the floor

And maybe one day you’re gonna find

That someone else won’t be quite so kind

They’ll treat you like a doormat,

And while they say that they’re a friend,

You’ll start to learn, how it hurts

How it hurts on the receiving end.
