This
song is based on a true story. I was doing a
fortune telling party when I met someone who
lived less than half a mile from me, but she
was married to a millionaire. I tried for
ages to write a song with the phrase
"she lives just round the corner, on a
different planet", but this was the
best I could do.
There
you are with your fancy car
In
your big fine house, high
walls all around it
Here
am I, just an average guy
Got
a job that I love
And
I’m lucky that I found it
But
you if you loved me and I loved you
There’d
be nothing we could do about it
But
in a different world we’d be together
There’d
be some way we’d just meet heart to heart
In
a different world there’d be somewhere
But
different worlds are pulling us apart
As
I walked you home, said you’d never known
A
man like me, so gentle and forgiving
Never
knew anyone like you
So
full of fire, with such a joy in living
I
looked in your eyes and you looked in mine
I
can’t mistake the signal that you’re
giving
All
your ways and the things you say
Just
make me see how far our ways have parted
Once
the same we’ve played different games
And
now we’re worlds away from where we
started
I’ve
had a varied life; you’ve been a rich
man’s wife
That’s
a recipe for broken hearted
