A very happy 2008 to everyone.
Songwriting is progressing slowly for the new album. Early sketches of "Time Out of Time" and "The Devil's Child" have been recorded and tried out live, "Betrayed" is making progress. I have the melody and harmonic structure and the phrases are forming themselves, but it is turning intro something in quite a different style from my usual. I have had a second look at the first idea I had for the private Melanie birthday CD, which was a song "The Fan". It is about obsessive fandom, and was a little too dark for a birthday present, so I recorded the much more upbeat "Ageless Child" instead. I will put that on the new CD too- it might not be so upbeat by then though!
Many years ago I had an idea for a song about about a wonderfully eccentric friend. I thought of him in the autumn when I saw a flight of wild geese heading across the sky, and there was a white farm goose in the skein. I have ideas for "White Goose" dating back over ten years, but it will be recorded soon.
Apart from songwriting, there are a couple of other projects lined up. I've been collecting timber and fittings to build an acoustic/electric lap steel. As soon as the warmer weather arrives, I shall make a start on that. It's cold in the garage at this time of year, and there are important things to do at work in the next couple of months- in fact I'm going to get back to doing them now.
